Have I got some gossip for you! There was a segment on NPR that made me go into one of my animated invective outbursts. It was a piece about the softening real estate market and what Centrex Homes is doing in Southern California to fuel the embers. They hired actors to play a “family” living in one of its model homes.
What happened to good old fashioned concepts like “quality” and “value” “fair pricing”? Ask just about any home inspector and they’ll tell you that “new construction” and “crap” are unfortunately interchangeable terms.
If you went to an open house where the owner hired actors to make you feel warm and fuzzy about the place would you want $10,000 off the price? Then another $10,000 off because there must be some ruse (such as hiding quality, value and fair pricing)? Then want another $10,000 off for GP? Or would you enjoy it? I’m curious.
I don’t think home buying is wading into the simulated waters of the “reality” show but entertainment isn’t free and the actors’ salaries will be a business expense that’s added to the price of the home and paid by the buyer.
The families have surely been baking on Sunday so I wonder if they have some yum-o pastries and espresso for their guests. Sounds good to me.
